I predict that Flavour (Nabania) will be the biggest act this year- if he sticks to his highlife style and continues to provide great hooks on other artiste songs.
Move over Wande Coal, another great voice is on the scene.
Flavour’s input on M.I’s ‘Number One’ not only dictated the beat but made the song one of the most memorable off the MI2 album.
The Enugu based artiste is unfortunately not as appreciated as he should be on the Nigerian music scene, maybe because his lyrics are often too hot for radio airplay and his videos even hotter for TV. However this year, Flavour has decided to go more mainstream starting with his single, ‘Obi na tumo’, which comes with a very sweet video that is currently being played on both local and international music channels.
But like P-Square before him, the high-life/R&B singer with the enchanting tenor is making more waves off the shores of Nigeria than on it. On a recent visit to New Guinea, the artist was shocked to find that the band that was to accompany him on stage knew the lyrics to his song which was sung in Igbo, even without knowing its meaning. His popularity is not any less in other African countries where he continues to perform.
His decision however to go more mainstream might not be a bad one as there is really no point in being talented and entertaining if you are not making real money off it.
On his twitter page, Flavour’s wishlist for this year included making a track produced by ace producer Don Jazzy. Personally, I pray this wish does come through and soon. Imagine a track with Flavour’s smooth voice and tongue-in-chick lyrics mixed with Don Jazzy’s innovative beats- mad!
So here is wishing the Kporokotom master as he prefers to be called, success at making that happen and at all other events that would ensure that we keep enjoying his talent for a long time to come.
Love a fan.
