Nigeria’s longest-running award show, The Headies, announced on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, that the winner of its most-coveted Next Rated Award category will be rewarded with a 2022 Bentley Bentayga worth over ₦75 million.
The Bentley Bentayga are in four models – Bentayga Speed, Bentayga S, Bentayga V8 and Bentayga Hybrid.
Pricing of the cheapest of the four models – Bentyaga V8, begins at over $180 million (over ₦75 million).
The 2021 winner of the Next Rated Award, Omah Lay, received a GAC SUV.
The Next Rated Award category is the most anticipated announcement at the event every year. It has become a sort of yardstick for predicting some of the artistes that will stand the test of time in the industry.
Since its first award ceremony in 2006, The Headies has crowned 14 ‘Next Rated’ artistes, who have become some of the biggest African music stars.
Asa, who won the maiden edition of the Next Rated Award in 2006 when the award was referred to as the ‘Hip Hop World Awards’ released her fifth studio album in February 2022 and has remained consistent in the music scene in Nigeria and across the world. Wizkid and Davido, who won the award in 2011 and 2012, respectively, are currently two of Africa’s most streamed and most successful music artistes. Other previous winners include Patoranking, Reekado Banks, Mayorkun, Rema and Omah Lay.
Some of the artistes likely to make the Next Rated nominees list this year include Ayra Starr, Victony, Buju, Oxlade, and CKay.
With the introduction of six new categories, the award show is also expanding its scope beyond Nigeria into a continental award show as organisers announced that the award will honour Best African Collaboration, Best International Collaboration and African Artiste of the Year.
The Headies will start receiving entries for the 15th edition from March 8 to April 12, 2022.
