This comes after a recent police investigation was launched to look into the Super Eagles of Nigeria friendly match with Scotland.
According to the New York Times report, Nigeria has consistently been involved in match rigging. It mentioned the friendly match between the Super Eagles and North Korea on Sunday, June 10, 201o, in preparation for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Nigeria won the friendly against the North Korean side by three goals to one.
Reports also say the FIFA investigators found that the referee in the Nigeria-North Korea match made several questionable calls. But investigators could not confirm whether the referee was a rogue Nigerian referee, Ibrahim Chaibou.
The investigators said they were certain that the referee present was not the Portuguese official who had been assigned.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s friendly with Scotland on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 which ended in a two goal draw, is under investigation for suspected fixing.
Officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have denied all the allegations.
FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce was quoted by Sky Sports as saying: ‘Match-fixing is a cancer within our game that has got to be driven out. ‘If these accusations are true, the people involved should be banned for life and sent to prison.’
