Spain’s richest woman and the duchess of Alba, Maria del Rosario Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart has died at the age of 88.
The 88-year-old who was rushed to hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2014 after a long battle with pneumonia,at her Duenas Palace Seville residence.
In the aftermath of her death, her coffin was driven past hundreds of tearful well-wishers to the Town Hall, where visitors paid their last respects at the lavish funeral which was attended by thousands of dignitaries.
Maria, who was been married three times – to Luis Martinez de Irujo y Artazcoz and Jesus Aguirre who are both deceased and her surviving husband, Alfonso Diez Carabantes – had five sons and a daughter with her first husband.
Her worth is estimated at £2.2billion
