The current World cup champions Spain have lost the first tournament match against Holland.
The match, played on Friday, June 13, 2014, at Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova saw Spain take the lead with a twenty seventh minute penalty goal from Xabi Alonso. Netherland came from behind to defeat the 2010 world cup champions with 5 goals, thanks to Robin van Persie and Arjen Roben, who found the net twice, and Stefan de Vrij getting his name on the score sheet.
Spain will have to triumph against Australia and Chile to qualify to the round of sixteen in the tournament.
