It has been a wonderful three months music wise on the radio. These are some of the sounds and stars my audience and I are loving at the moment!
Davido – ‘Gobe’
Somewhere between ‘Back when’ and ‘Dami Duro’, Davido found his sound and he is sticking with it. His new song, ‘Gobe’ sounds like something we have heard before, and that is the beauty of the track!
Iyanya
The Iyanya story is one of an R n B artiste who couldn’t get anyone to pay him attention till he sang ‘Kukere’. We may hear the old Iyanya once in a while at shows, but it is the songs like Like-At-First-Listen ‘Kukere’, Hate-But-Still-Dance-To ‘Your Waist’ and Grows-On-You ‘ Flavour’ that pay the bills!
Ruby – ‘Down’
Ruby caught our attention with the simple but powerful ‘Okay’, and it is kudos to her that she made the impact she did in 2012 with just one official single. Now in 2013, she is offering us ‘Down’, something that sounds like 2013 Diana Ross! I love it!
Banky W and Capital F.E.M.I
Like everywhere else in the world, POP(ular) music dominates, and Naija Pop is the sound that sells here, but one or two artistes like Capital F.E.M.I and Banky W are sticking with R n B.
F.E.M.I’s ‘I Love My Wife’ and Banky’s ‘Yes No’ and ‘Mercy’ are worth checking out.
Lola Rae
Catchy song? Check. Visually appealing video? Check. Mystery? Check.
Lola Rae has managed to grab our attention by teasing us a little! ‘Watch my tin go’ is a fun song. Watch her go!
B.O.J, Burna Boy and BlackMagic
Some get on the microphone and you can tell they put the effort in. Probably had some tea and honey and did a few push ups. These guys however make music sound so effortless! It’s so laid back and yet so captivating. Whatever they are selling, we are buying!
I love ‘B.O.T.M’, ‘Run My Race’ and ‘Repete’
L.O.S
They are young, they are fresh, and I don’t know where they got it from but they have their own unique sound, style and vibe.
Their song, ‘Bad Guy P’ was already THE song, but then they upped the ante by working with Banky W and Sarkodie on a remix. Interestingly, Banky W chose to rap on the track. Check out their sounds www.team-los.com
Jaywon – ‘Odun Yi’
Whatever you want this year, there is a confession for you in the song ‘This Year (Odun Yi) by Jaywon featuring Nomoreloss.
Sarkodie
There is always that to-go person from time to time. It has been Akon for a bit but now, if you want your good dose of African magic, who you gonna call? SARKODIE!
From L.O.S to D’Banj and Ice Prince, everyone is getting the Sarkodie treatment. And we’re loving it!
Music is fickle, Music is fast. One day you’re hot, the next day you’re not!
But with new sounds and re-invention, some artistes find a way to stay relevant!
