SMVA 3.0…Another Success!!
We were promised a show by the organizers of the Soundcity Music Video Awards (SMVA) and we certainly were not disappointed. The venue for this year’s SMVA was the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos and the day was Saturday, November 20th, 2010. Soundcity continues in its pattern of taking gigantic strides, standing in the gap and putting forward not only Nigerian, but African music as a whole to the rest of the world as it should be. Hence only a world class status would have been befitting for third SMVA.
The main event was predated by the poolside fashion show, an innovation by Soundcity which was rather exquisite and tastefully packaged for public consumption. The glamorous runway was adorned with exotic models of different nationals and they were fitted by designers; Tiffany Amber, Lanre DaSilva-Ajayi, Dax Martin, Ituen Basi , MAI to mention but a few. Opening performances from the dynamic duo, P-Square and Nigerian dance queen, Kaffy jumpstarted the event livening up the stage for Big Brother All-Stars Winner and SMVA host, Uti to take the stage with style and anchor the rest of the event.
As the night grew in age, the stage was continuously ‘murdered’ by one ‘A’ list performer after the other with Sasha P notably the favourite performer of the night, then awards were dished in due course with 2face Idibia and Banky W as big winners on the night.
The gist for this event is plenty but meanwhile…just hold onto this list of the SMVA 2010 winners.
