American rapper and business mogul, Kanye West announced in the early hours of Sunday that he intends to run for the office of US president in 2020.
‘We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION,’ he tweeted as Americans celebrated their independence day.
Tesla CEO and Space X founder, Elon Musk quickly showed his support for Kanye’s presidential candidacy. The billionaire wrote, ‘You have my full support!’.
His wife and reality star, Kim Kardashian-West simply responded with an emoji of the US Flag.
The 43-year-old has teased on different occasions that he was going to run for President. But it is unclear if he is actually serious about vying for the position this year or if he has filed any paperwork to this effect.
Many Americans have thronged to social media to comment about Kanye’s announcement, with many people claiming that he is only running to help divide votes and get Donald Trump re-elected.
Yes! Where has been Kanye about all of this?! Kanye loves Donald Trump! Kanye is doing this to help Donald Trump! Desperate Donald! #BreonnaTaylor #COVID19 https://t.co/NIwkifDkvp

This is not an insult. I’m a psychologist. Kanye is not well. Please help him if you care about him.

While many think that his tweet was either a joke or a PR stunt.
Listen to Palmer RT @PalmerReport
– Kanye isn’t running. It would be too late for him to even get on the ballot in most states
– This phony announcement is a PR stunt for his new album
– “Trump will win because Kanye is running” isn’t a thing
– Stop falling for doomsday bullshit— Tomi T Ahonen (@tomiahonen) July 5, 2020
As if I couldn’t hate the kardashians even more they are literally using Kanye west running for president as a pr stunt while so many people’s lives are at risk. pic.twitter.com/GkMefqoCp3

I am both apprehensive and curious to see where this new type of popular people politics will lead us. Politics is not a joke and I sincerely hope @kanyewest will not treat it as such.

Kanye West’s announcement comes only four months before the elections in November. He has a long road ahead of him if he is indeed serious about running for presidency this year.
