Before Black Americans were referred to as ‘Americans’, their forefathers first had to fight for their civil rights to be called citizens.

Africans in America were referred to as Negroes from 1776 and were used as slaves until 1865 when Abraham Lincoln passed the 13th amendment of the constitution and abolished slave trade.
Although free from slavery, they had to endure racism for many years and are still suffering from racial profiling that often leads to police brutality.
