Nigeria-born Qatari athlete, Femi Ogunode has broken the Asian record, finishing in 9.93 seconds in the Men’s 100m in South Korea, making it known that he is ready to challenge the big boys, including Jamaican king of the tracks, Usain Bolt.
Ogunode beat China’s Su Bingtan and Japan’s Kei Takase, who finished in second and third positions at the Asian games held on Sunday, September 28, 2014.
Speaking after his victory, the sprinter, who won the 200-400m double at the 2010 Asian Games said he’s aiming to claim victory at the World Championships and the Rio 2016 Olympics.
‘I have confidence in myself that I can challenge anybody. I see myself winning the gold medal in Rio.’
Ogunode moved to Qatar in October 2009 and began international competition the following year. He won the 100 metres and 200 metres at the West Asian Championships and competed in the 2010 Asian Games.
