Lagos State has officially thrown its weight behind this year’s edition of The Headies Awards, solidifying the event’s status as the premier music recognition platform in Africa.
In a video shared by the organisers and streamed at the event, Governor Babajiide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State expressed his excitement for the partnership.
“The Headies has been the rallying point—the crème de la crème, the high point of music awards in Nigeria and Africa,” the governor stated. “It is a name that has stayed with the industry, and all players aspire to be a winner. Doesn’t matter if you were there last year; you also want to try to win it this year.”
The governor praised the growth of The Headies over the years, emphasizing its increasing depth and acceptability. He also highlighted Lagos State’s commitment to supporting the entertainment sector, noting that The Headies plays a crucial role in the music industry’s value chain.
“We’re very excited. What we have out is the entire value chain in entertainment, and of course, The Headies stands out in that industry. We are very proud to be working with them,” he added.
The 2025 Headies Awards is expected to be one of the most anticipated editions yet, bringing together the biggest names in African music to celebrate talent, creativity, and excellence.
With Lagos State’s backing, the awards are set to reach new heights, further cementing their legacy as the gold standard for music recognition on the continent.
