It’s been a hectic -even annoying- New Year for anyone in possession of a green passport. Let’s start with the sad news first, after gallantly battling ovarian cancer for many years and surviving at least one rumoured report of her death, Maryam Babangida finally passed on, and was laid to rest in Minna on December 30, 2009.
The former first lady’s death only slightly deflected attention from that silly Nigerian boy who boarded a Delta Air flight only to find out that Christmas knockouts weren’t welcome on Airplanes.
Not to despair Nigeria, for NET brings you a true Nigerian worthy of our emulation and adulation, and she in turn gives us something to cheer about in these trying times.
Arguably Nigeria’s biggest female musical export, Sade Adu is back after almost a decade away from the spotlight. On December 8, 2009 Sade and her self-titled band débuted the first single from their upcoming album Soldier of Love. The single goes by the same name and has gotten even megastars like Kanye West amped up for the new release. But don’t call it a come back though, even if Sade took an eternity to release new music, the world would still be waiting; ready to listen.

The song Soldier of Love was written by Sade along with the other band members Andrew Hale (keyboardist), Stuart Matthewman (guitarist), and Paul Spencer Denman (bassist). Remarkably, the song debuted at number 49 on the Billboard R&B Charts on December 9, less than a day after premiering on Sade’s website! Soldier of Love was produced by Sade Adu and Mike Pela, and is a militaristic track fittingly laced with harrowing horns and dipped in snare drum percussion. Sade’s subdued vocals are the icing on the cake; her voice is quite simply incapable of making bad music.
CNN, BBC, Sky News and most of all, FOX News were all wrong, Nigerians aren’t ALL terrorists! Don’t get me wrong, we do have fighters… but, just like Adu, many of them us are merely ‘Soldiers of Love’ and nothing more.

Yeah, Sade is the 'IT' gurl and am happy she is back to Rock! As for the Naija guy that wanted to throw 'knockout' on a US-bound plane, by the time the US is through with him, he will see lots of stars and fire works that his supposed 'knockout' will seem small in comparism…Lol. we are nigerians and we rock! sade Adu is a point in note…
