
Helen Folasade Adu – more popularly known as Sade Adu – turns 58 today, January 16, 2017.
Let’s take some time to reminisce about the lady who has been acknowledged by our present-day superstars including Kanye West, Rick Ross, Beyonce, Keri Hilson, Kelly Rowland and many more.
The 58-year-old British Nigerian singer and mother of one was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.
After completing her education at Clacton County High School at age 18, she moved to London and studied fashion design at Saint Martin’s School of Art.

She’s the lead singer of English band ‘Sade’ formed in 1982, alongside Paul Denman, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman.
Sade’s first single, ‘Your Love Is King’, became a top 10 British hit in February 1984, and with that her life, and that of the band, changed forever.
The understated elegance of the music in conjunction with her exotic and effortlessly sophisticated look launched Sade as the female face of the style decade. Magazines queued to put her on the cover.
Sade’s debut studio album Diamond Life was also released in 1984 under Epic Records, reaching No. 2 in the UK Album Chart, sold over six million copies to emerge one of the top-selling debut recordings of the 1980s, and the best-selling debut ever by a British female vocalist.

‘Aunty Sade’ made her acting debut in 1986 British film Absolute Beginners which also starred singer David Bowie and English actress Patsy Kensit.

Her most recent album Soldier of Love was released in 2010 – a follow up to 2000 studio work ‘Lovers Rock’.
