
Nigerian athletes are out of both men and women’s 200m finals in Rio 2016 Olympics.
Ejowvokoghene Oduduru – who finished second in Heat 9 behind Jamaica’s Usain Bolt in a time of 20.34 seconds to reach semi-final – tried but couldn’t ‘die on the line’ this time to qualify for the men’s 200m final.
The viral internet sensation finished in seventh place with a time of 20.59 seconds in the second semi-final.
Athletes that made the final, holding later today at the Olympic stadium, include favourite Usain Bolt, Canada’s Andre De Grasse, Turkey’s Ramil Guliyev and Great Britain sprinter Adam Gemili.
Others are Panama’s Alonso Edward, US’ LaShawn Merritt, Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre and Churandy Martina from Netherlands.
Earlier on, Blessing Okagbere fell out of contention in the women’s 200m – after clocking 22.69secs to finish fifth in the semi-finals.

Boxer Efe Ajagba is also out after suffering a quarterfinal knockout by Kazakhstan’s Ivan Dychko in the Men’s super-heavy over 91 kg category. Also, the men’s Olympic football team won’t play in the finals, BUT still have to battle for bronze after losing 2-0 to Germany in their semi-final match.
Tournament hosts Brazil will play Germany in the men’s soccer finals on Saturday, August 20 at Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro, while Honduras, who lost 0-6 to Brazil, will play Nigeria in the third place playoff.
