It’s truly unfortunate that despite all that has been said and written, and those who’ve been charged and persecuted for red-carpet offenses, it still hasn’t occurred to most of our celebs that they need to bring their ‘A-game’ to the red carpet. Let me open up a little, and perhaps you’ll understand my grievances.
As soon as the 2011 edition of the AMAA ended, I started whetting my appetite for a red carpet showdown come 2012, and trust our celebs, I wasn’t disappointed. I therefore give you my humble offering of those who rocked the AMAA red carpet, and those who sucked.
In no particular order, here they go. The Good, the Bad and the pretty ugly.
THE GOOD
I love Thelma Okoduwa’s simple look. She seems to know how to play it simple. Her blonde up-do, sexy black gown with a lil’ tail drama and accessories, all right on point. This is definitely the definition of less is more.
Apart from corset dresses and low backs, mono straps are another style I would die for because it sort of reminds me of the early Egyptians and the Indian sari. Now, you wonder why she gets a pass mark?
Still talking mono straps, only the daring ones think of exposing their shoulders and backs. This type of flaunting is allowed, especially with that gorgeous body and skin. She sure rocks the red carpet.
No one would dare do red on a red carpet and still manage to pull off this look like Toolz. Perhaps, if someone else did, we may be seeing something else, but Toolz rocked it.
When she appeared at the premiere of Phone Swap in her monochrome gown, I didn’t expect her to give us another red carpet stunner this soon. Except for her hair, which I found strange, I would have given her my biggest thumbs up.
Funmi Iyanda embraced the animal-print trend on the red carpet in this dress. Smart Funmi knew the ‘less is more’ approach with accessories would make her look on point, and she stuck to it.
Blue has never looked so cool on the red carpet as it does on this gorgeous D’.
I know black usually rocks on red carpets, but black with such a fierce look and strength? This gets the red carpet seal of approval.
As we can see with this fabulous dress, it seems like the monochromatic look is here to stay. I just love this. Looks like Fathia Balogun was born to wear this white gown.
The Bad
Whatever Uche had in mind with this look didn’t seem to hit it for me. Running out of gowns doesn’t warrant showing up this way.
Hey Empress, too many colours on a colour like red, is certainly not right. Cool gown, but it would be better on a black carpet.
As much as I appreciate your trying to promote African materials, this style doesn’t seem to be bust friendly, especially for a ‘heavy’ woman like you.
Why would anybody wanna compete with the rainbow on a red carpet?
OMG! This is AMAA, not some Indian dance parade. Even the dress looks ill fitting. So many wrong things. Nice smile though.
With a better hair-do, she might have made the ‘good’ but with this, she had better stay here until she learns that Lady Gaga isn’t a Nigerian.
THE UGLY
What in God’s name is this?
Fashion is meant for the daring, darlings. If you can’t afford to expose your backs, clear your wardrobe of your corsets and save yourself the stress of an extra accessory like a scarf.
This is the definition of loud. The sequins are too much, and the dragging black attachment? Complete fail.
Who in God’s name styled Moyo Lawal? This is an error that can’t be fixed here in Nigeria. I recommend for her a three week break with thoughts of nothing but style and fashion.
OMG! This is AMAA, not some Indian dance parade. Even the dress looks ill fitting. So many wrong things. Nice smile though.
Perhaps if the ‘twins’ had popped out that night, she would have learnt a lesson on how to dress for a red carpet event.
Unnecessary exposure is most certainly a violation, so try not be like this lady.
No doubt Eku locks this look down, but I would have preferred her to wear a darker shade.
I recommend for you a three month course to study colour. You seem to be in love with so much of it. It’s a red carpet, not a costume party
This by far the wrongest of all. It’s got all the ‘buts’ you can imagine, so don’t even start.
What’s with the wrap-up?
