
She attended Holy Child College, Lagos for her secondary school education, then attended the University of Lagos, where she studied English Language. She further proceeded abroad for more studies and obtained certification in drama from the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
2 months ago, precisely July 19, 2015, Joke Silva lost her mum, Dr. Marienne Abimbola Silva who is acclaimed as one of the first female medical doctors in Nigeria to the cold hands of death at the age of 89.
Joke Silva is highly regarded in the industry as one of the most professional actors. Her sojourn to television and drama predates the introduction of Nollywood as a brand after appearing in the 1984 production, Mirror in the Sun. She had earlier appeared in several stage plays including a 1981 presentation of Wole Soyinka’s Jero’s Metamorphosis.
Joke has acted in several Nollywood movies too numerous to mention, while she is also the proprietor of Lufodo Arts Academy, where budding entertainers are nurtured. Joke is also the faculty principal of the MTN Project Fame West Africa.
In April, 2015, Mummy Jay as she is fondly referred to spoke at the 3rd edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference #NECLive3 on the need for Teaching and Training Tomorrow’s Talents positing that ‘training is the key to longevity in Nollywood.’
