You can’t teach an old dog a new trick. This saying best sums up the fifth album by Africa’s biggest and most famous group Psquare. After giving their massively hyped ‘The Invasion’ a good spin or two you get to know that beneath the layer of their Euro-pop beats, it’s the same old Peter and Paul with their same old gimmicks of jacking and cheesy lyrics.
If you got a feeling that you’ve heard the album opener ‘Beautiful Onyinye’ before, you are correct as it is a lazy rehash of their previous hit ‘No One like You’. The album picks up on ‘Chop My Money’ featuring their latest signing May D. Not wanting to drop the party tempo ‘Asamkpoto’ comes next. The party jam reveals another Psquare faux pas as the instrumental is a brazen rip-off of one of Samklef’s popular beats.
From here on, the album is divided into contemporary highlife songs and Euro-pop tracks. While the sloppy singles ‘Forever’ and ‘Bunieya Enu’ threaten to bore you, ‘Do As I Do’ featuring Tiwa Savage & May D and ‘She’s Hot’ featuring Naeto C help to raise the temperature of the contemporary highlife groove.
Mixed results also trail their experimentation with the Euro-Pop genre which is the trend right now. No doubt, they get the beats hands down as they are solely capable of making you move in the club but it’s quite obvious that the twins are not masters of these genres as their vocals uncomfortably float on the instrumental without making an impression on you. However on songs such as ‘Jeje’ featuring Waje and ‘Player’ they seem to get it right.
It’s not all dance through and through. The LP’s deepest cut is a slow reggae track titled ‘Me and My Brother’ which chronicles their rise to fame while ‘Ole Buruku’ represents the music Psquare has been known for.
‘The Invasion’ feels all over the place, it doesn’t have a binding core to it which makes it loose. Maybe P-Square wanted to prove that they can be part of the crowd sadly however they are lost in it. What this album reveals is that is high time P-Square upgrade their approach to music or face irrelevancy within the next decade.

ur very right..the album is stil a rephrase of their previous LP…what a shame and lack of creativity..spending tyme analysing the cost of their mansion than doing something more creatively inn the studio..

Ayomide Tayo, you just spoke my mind and the obvious. I made same comments and observations on their youtube channel under the name “okikpo”. I love and admire the group. They should strive to be more creative in their future experimentations. I must confess, its not easy. Doing music is HARD!
D album is gud
the album is super b.i will say good job but you can still do better.
The album is just too good,if you are saying ‘invasion’ isn’t good then i wonder what you say about wizkid’s album (superstar)
The Invassion! To me the album is nice enough for hearing. Is just that, for one to change music style ,is neva a day job. So it will take Psquare some time to adjust. I still regard them as the best in Naija Music Industry.
Gosh!, this album is d best, ok guys anoda mans food is anoda mans poison d sayed, so if u don’t like d instrumental, then check d lyrics, u must love one of the two. But 4 me, all is perfect. P_SQUARE, more greece to your elbow, God bless you.

Ayomide, ur review was spot on! Most times, we heard the songs over the radio, my folks always go “na P square be that?” rite before they get into the groove. Same can’t be said of D’banj nor tubaba, I never heard anyone ask “is that D’banj?”. The album is good but not outstanding.
I can’t believe dat this tight album dat is driving people everywhere crazy is getting a knock 4rm u ! Hav u chekd out traks lik ‘jeje’,’she’s hot’,’get down low’, etc ? Shows their creativity. Plz encourage them.
P-SQUARE is just too greedy cuz they want to do everything by themselves they sing and dance, there brother paul directs their video and manage them, now they’ve started producing their songs by themselves what a greedy jark of all trade master of nonesense. I regreted buying this album cuz all the songs sounds alike cuz they want to do everything themselves but their plan will be the area of good video where they always captivate us but it wont work this time cuz all naija artist now are shooting good videos now.
@slumdogg. u de yan mehn.

THE INVASION ALBUM IS A BOMB AND P SQUARE REMAINS NUMBER 1 IN AFRICA.
ever since i bought the album i have not played any other song. In my house everybody enjoys it including my grand mum. That’s what makes a good music.
Exactly! Nnamdi. Since i got the cd i have not played anything else. My sisters are like, is it everyday u must listen to this album? i said of course thats what it means to be a fan. That Ayomide Tayo and all the other critics are just shooting their mouths, let them give them a mike and let us see what they can do with it. We should learn to appreciate our own
I read this article written by an Ayomide Tayo in the Sep 5 to 19th edition of NET about the Psquare Invasion and i was absolutely overgasted by such unworthy comments. When will we learn to appreciate our very own? These guys are stars and masters at what they do. And they are Nigerians.Whatever they are doing is for our entertainment and a befitting display of their God-given talents and i think they deserve kudos for that.
Mr Ayomide criticised most of the songs in the album and the arrangement, based on what,i dont know. Is it easy? E no easy eh, oohh, to dey sing and dey dance and dem people dem rejoice eh. ooohh, my brother, my sister ……
I was at the Invasion Concert and everything was brilliant and PSquare are guys that work very hard and are now reaping the fruits of their labours.
Let us always see the good in things, cos if u look for the bad in everything u will always find it.
well done guys….
Ay..its a Good review meaning that you are giving us your review based on what you know about music…But the fact is that Psquare are business men…they understand the market more than you and they want to sell and they are selling..If they dont go back to their former songs how would they satisfy their fans?…its better to make reference from your past works as an artist than to trying doing something new and do rubbish like faze..Thats the way its goes and that is a BIG secret for Musician…copy dat?
Simple, The Invasion is TIGHT!!! Period!
Mr AbiodunTayo et all haters and critics, please beat their record before you open your foul mouth to release rubbish. By the way, what’s the beef if they decide to keep their money within the family. They have no obligation to you, so make your own money and keep your business within your family.
If you haters used your time wisely, doing something that appeals to people worldwide, you’ll hardly have the time to critic P-Square.
And for P-Square, you guys are on POINT!!! Please keep the good work and shun them haters.
Many will not understand this excessive massacre of a musical work. I don’t like how Nigerians are destroying their own on platforms like the internet. See, it is clear that PSquare is into popular music. Hence, as far as they are selling, the people cannot be wrong: series of mega hit tracks in multi-platinum albums for years need @ least a little respect. PSquare have mastered their style and it is working like magic! Any other critical opinion is clearly borne out of jealousy. When the videos will be out, they’ll certainly dominate the airwaves, as usual. Tracks like Player, Chop My Money, Do As I DO, Forever, OLE buruku, Anything, Shake It Down Low, She’s Hot, Beautiful Onyinye etc will certainly dominate the market for a long time!!!
You haters like ayomide go and find sowewhere to sit because you don’t know to talk in society,i wonder why you discourage them but you no fit to achieve what dey achieve in there life you bad pple dat saying bad things out,p square you are 5 much to me keep it up don’t mind them, you are the best among rest
The writer of this review should be ashamed of him or herself. What is this article still doing here, in this website, until now? Pls, delete this rubbish! PSquare has invaded and conquered ooo
