At the ongoing General Assembly of the United Nations, President Buhari has blamed the recent excessive rainfall in the country on the previous president’s administration.
In the last two weeks, there have been heavy downpours that have slowed down business activities across the country. It has been speculated that a combination of bad roads and climate change might have been responsible but a new angle was introduced by the president as he spoke to the Assembly of Heads of States in New York.
‘Many people are concerned that the rainy season should have been coming to an end but the rains are still persistent’, he said. ‘If President Jonathan had prayed for good weather when he went to Jerusalem, we would not have these rains now.’
This has met with serious condemnation from members of the PDP who insist that President Buhari does not have the required meteorological certificate to manage the weather.
According to a statement given to our correspondent, Fic Titious, ex-president’s political party says, ‘President Buhari should just resign if he knows he can’t handle the rains. When it rained in 2012, our capable Goodluck Jonathan made sure that he monitored the weather and coordinated the rains appropriately. That is the hallmark of quality leadership.’
On his part, Buhari has encouraged world leaders to benefit from the excess rain, saying ‘With oil prices going down and water resource still scarce in many parts of the world, Nigeria has enough water to serve the whole African continent.’
