If you surf the web frequently for Nigerian entertainment news and celebrity gossip, then you must have landed on her blog once or twice or more. Her name is Linda Ikeji – a model and sole owner of the very popular www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com.
Over the years Linda’s blog has become a cyber village where people scurry away to but she’s most popular for her controversial posts. However, she has won the attention of many with her humane approach of relating with her readers – most times in a personal manner; never shying away from dishing out bits and pieces of personal info and every now and then, sharing with readers, her interesting private parts.
She’s blogged about men; about sex; about circumcision, her fears, career exploits, as well as many other stuff conventional society would frown at.
Ms Ikeji tells us when she’s just made a new hairstyle. She blogs about new dresses or shoes, if she attended a concert last weekend, she’s happy to share her red carpet pictures with readers.
Not surprising that when she changed her car this week, she took to her blog to share the good news. On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, Ikeji, a former model and publisher posted pictures of her new car – a Toyota Camry 2008 model – on her blog. ‘Been dreaming about this car since I first saw it two years ago, was finally able to afford it two days ago, after saving for almost four months. And the best part is, I have a blog to show it off, at least now some people go no say ‘levels don change’ lol.’, she wrote.
Out of the 214 comments that the post has generated, a majority congratulated her while others prayed the car doesn’t get stolen.
Those who have been following her blog for a while will remember that she made it public when she bought her last car.
But the Camry, sources say, is one of the many signs that ‘business has been good’. Ikeji’s blog currently ranks no 58 in Nigeria – an enviable position for a one-man platform without the requisite elements of an online news organisation.
Along with www.bellanaija.com, www.thenetng.com, www.notjustok.com, www.gistmaster.com, www.questionmarkmag.com and www.360nobs.com, www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com belongs to a growing community of blogs and websites dedicated to Nigerian entertainment, celebrity and lifestyle content – giving conventional media like THISDAY, The PUNCH, The Guardian and the dozens of celebrity magazines a run for their money.
Linda Ikeji continues to be under heavy criticism though: for constantly lifting gossip and news materials from soft-sell journals; most of whom currently do not have any presence on the internet.
