On Thursday, August 2, 2012, the city of Awka, Anambra State was sombre, as pop stars Peter and Paul Okoye – Psquare finally buried their late mother Josephine Okoye.
Josephine Okoye passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, about five hours after a heart surgery in Apollo Hospital, India.
The burial activities were brief; the body left the Regina Caeli mortuary, Awka for a lying-in-state at the late Josephine’s paternal family residence in Umunachi, Umudioka Village. The Okoye family – Moses Okoye and children Ifeanyi, Henry, Jude, Lilian, Tony, Peter, Paul and Mary did not attend.
The body was later taken to the Okoye residence in Ifite-Dunu, Akwa Village, for another lying-in-state which was attended by the Okoyes. While friends and relatives could not help but cry, the Okoyes looked calm and collected.
The body was then taken to St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Ifite-Dunu for a Requiem Mass. All through the journey, the family members, especially the celebrity twins were heavily guarded by security men who followed them all the way from Lagos.
She was buried at the Okoyes’ residence, inside the family compound.
Notable guests at the ceremony were the Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi, Square Records’ act May D and Flytime Events boss Cecil Hammond.
The burial ceremony was handled by popular undertakers M.I.C.
