Nigerian pop star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, is set to take a bold creative leap with the release of a new refix EP, a solo project that will see him reinvent some of Psquare’s biggest hits in his own unique style.
In a recent interview with Cool FM, Mr P shared details of the upcoming project, which he says will drop before the end of 2025. The EP, aptly titled The Refix, will revisit old Psquare songs — the iconic duo he formed with his twin brother Paul Okoye.
Mr P emphasized that copyright issues won’t be a problem, as he co-owns the rights to the original tracks. He described the project as a personal reinterpretation of the music that once dominated Nigerian airwaves and beyond.
Psquare, once regarded as one of Africa’s most iconic music duos, dominated the industry throughout the 2000s and early 2010s with chart-toppers like Do Me, No One Like You, and Personally. But the harmony ended in 2017 when the twin brothers parted ways professionally amid internal disputes.
Though they reconciled briefly in November 2021, their reunion was short-lived. By August 2024, the duo had another public fallout, after Paul accused Peter of arranging his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Peter denied the accusation, instead alleging that their older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, had diverted millions from their joint business into a secret company.
Now focused on his solo career, Mr P says he’s enjoying the artistic freedom that comes with flying solo.
“There is a joy that comes with being solo now, but I will just tell everyone to respect our decision,” he said. “We have tried it, it isn’t working, so everyone is trying to move on.”
He added that the solo path has allowed him to express himself more authentically:
“…What I’m doing now is what I love doing — being able to express myself, do things my own way. I’m sorry, it may not be pleasing to everyone, but there were times when I wanted to do something, and I felt limited.”
While no track list has been revealed yet, fans can expect updated versions of some of Psquare’s classic hits, this time filtered through Peter’s personal style and voice. The EP represents not just a return to familiar melodies but a reinvention of legacy, shaped by experience, growth, and independence.
