Considered one of Africa’s most talented actors in Nigeria, Chief Pete Edochie, MON has been honored with an Industry Merit Award by Africa Magic and Lifetime Achievement by Africa Film Academy.
Although a seasoned administrator and broadcaster, he came into prominence in the 1980s when he played the lead role of Okonkwo in an NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s all-time best selling novel, Things Fall Apart.
The Nigerian actor who began his career in a broadcasting corporation at age 20 before moving into the movie industry has featured in hundreds of movies and has been awarded both locally and internationally. He is even regarded as one of Africa’s greatest actors and was honored as a Member of the Order of the Niger in 2003 by Olusegun Obasanjo.
Pete Edochie is regarded as one of Nollywood’s greatest actors. He, along with others, shaped the Nigerian movie industry, Hence, the need to talk about his undying efforts, landmark achievements, recognitions and why he is regarded as a veteran in Nollywood.
Sharing some of his secrets to a successful career in acting in a new book titled, Success Is Not Served A La Carte, Pete mentioned that his vocabulary took him far. He said, “To succeed in acting, you have to read a lot. You also have to be at home with language so that you can have a dependable vocabulary to fall back on”.
In Azuh Arinze’s book, Success Is Not Served A La Carte, Pete Edochie’s giant strides are documented. The book is an enlightening collection of one on one interview sessions with 30 high-profiled individuals in the country including; Christopher Kolade of Cadbury/LBS, Tony Ezenna of Orange Drugs, Anselm Madubuko of Revival Assembly, Steve Babaeko of X3M Ideas, Film director, Tade Ogidan, veteran actors, Pete Edochie and Dele Odule, to name a few. The book explores the success stories of these individuals, and also provides key insights into their lives.
