
The judge, Thokozile Masina, in her judgement, said circumstances, such as rehabilitation and remorse, were the reasons why she didn’t hand down the minimum 15-year sentence for murder required by law to him.
Last December, Oscar’s initial five-year conviction for manslaughter was changed to murder last December on appeal.
Immediately after the judgement was read he was taken to jail. Both the prosecution and defence can appeal, but his lawyers say they will not.

Pistorius, 29, has to spend at least half of his six-year sentence before he can be eligible for parole.
