In an attempt to raise awareness on sexual violence, and put an end to the scourge of rape incidence in the society, an organization designed to champion the cause, Walk Against Rape Nigeria has unveiled its first ever handbook titled ‘Breaking The Silence’.
Unveiled on October 11, 2013 as part of activities to commemorate the ‘International Girl Child Day’, the handbook written by the National Coordinator of the organization, Esther Ijewere-Kalejaiye is expected to create more awareness on the effects of rape incidence in the country, and point out the importance and need for support for rape victims/survivors.
Ijewere-Kalejaiye says ‘the handbook will educate and sensitise the society on sexual abuse, the importance of reporting rape cases, where to get help, who to talk to , helplines to call and other vital information on rape and sexual abuse.’
The organization also launched their official blog where people can get information on rape cases in Nigeria, read true stories of rape survivors, report cases of sexual abuse and helplines to report cases.
The book will be available in major bookshops and malls across the country, and can also be purchased online.
