OJB Jezreel is dead, that’s news.
It’s sad that he passed on hours after been hospitalized.
Yesterday June 13, myself and other NET bandits had just finished an editorial meeting at TheNETng Lagos headquarters in Ikeja.
I was entertaining the Madhouse with my wonderful Akon playlist blasting through my HP laptop, when my good colleague Dayo told me to pause the melody or use an earphone, because he wanted to transcribe the interview he had with OJB a day before (Sunday, June 12, 2016).
Then I asked him, ‘Otunba you don go do the interview?’
We were together when he called to request for an interview with OJB – who would have turned 50 July 4 – on Friday, and the respected producer said he’d just left the hospital.
So Dayo replied, ‘Yes, na yesterday I go do am’.
Then he proceeded with an unusual look: ‘OJB is still sick o, he laid on bed, looking pale, coughing while I did the interview. I’m not sure he can survive this year.’
‘Even as I dey transcribe this interview sef, I still feel emotional. I remembered looking at his wall and I found a throwback photo of ‘egbon’ when he was still in form’
Another colleague, Timilehin added, ‘That’s when he was still Jigga, egbon don try, surviving for all these years’

I was in shock that he’s very ill, then we’d agreed to profile him in the coming weeks.
After giving it a second thought, I said,
‘So if OJB dies now, all our so called celebrities will start forming acquaintances, but now they are no where to be found.’
Knowing how they deceived their fans when Nomoreloss passed away, like they did when Jide Kosoko‘s wife Henrietta died and their unbelievable reactions to the respective passing of former Super Eagles coaches Keshi and Amodu, my sadness at the passing of the ace producer increases with every one of their ‘condolence’ post I see.

So now, OJB is dead, you guys will go on Twitter to have fun with 140 characters. You have Facebook and Instagram to write the story of your lives and times with the late man… You will post long epistles and countless pictures showing how much you loved him.
However, words are like the wind, without action they are nothing. When it was time to act on the man’s behalf, where were you? When it was time to join the late Nomoreloss in helping him with his health challenges, where were you? After he recovered, did you bother to check on him?
Now he’s dead, you’ll come with your hypocritical talk. I’m almost certain if the dead could talk, you’ll hear a resounding ‘SHUT UP!’ everytime you want to say or type glowing tributes to OJB.
But who can conclusively say dead ones don’t speak? Watch out, they may speak via thunder coming to strike you!
