A Nigerian filmmaker, Chris Ihidero, has said that with adequate funding, Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood, can achieve tremendous success.
Speaking with CNN, Ihidero said there is an abundance of talent in the country and that with adequate funding, the movie industry can attain top heights.
Ihidero, who recently helped produce Nigeria’s first feature-length animated movie, Lady Buckitt and the Motley Mopsters, believes that the industry can produce different genres with adequate funding.
He said: “I feel that Lady Buckitt and the Motley Mopsters tell a different story about Nollywood. It talks about the possibilities where talent is involved. It also talks about the possibility where adequate funding is involved. Nollywood can do anything, you just have to fund it right.”
According to the International Monetary Fund, Nollywood contributes 1.4% to Nigeria’s GDP and Ihidero hints that this can improve with adequate funding as this can help create new genres of films.
