Contrary to public perception, Nollywood actress Ebun Hodo has pointed out that beauty and sex appeal is not enough to be successful in Nollywood. According to her, whilst beauty is seen by many as a factor for landing roles, it is not sustainable .
In her words, she said “I personally do not think beauty and sex appeal are enough for you to succeed in the Nollywood industry. There is a saying that goes, ‘Many are called, but few are chosen,’” she told Potpourri.
The actress emphatically stated that Nollywood requires more than just a pretty face because for an actress to have longevity, she requires talent and skill.
To buttress her point, Ebun further emphasized that talent and skill play a more significant role in an actor’s longevity with an open question. “Are you really among the chosen? Do you have the knowledge of what you are doing? Can you interpret roles with depth and conviction?”
The use of voodoo, mostly known as juju in the industry was laid bare as she noted that the only way just sex appeal may take you anywhere in the industry is through using juju.
“You need to bring something real to the table, whether it’s passion, hard work, or a commitment to your craft, because looks will only get you so far,” she concluded.
