The Anglican Bishop of Aguata Diocese, in Anambra State, Rt Reverend Samuel Ezeofor has said no wedding of couples in the diocese will hold until they first perform their traditional marriage rites.
Bishop Ezeofor announced this at the Cathedral Church of Saint John Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government Area of the South-Eastern state during a thanksgiving service and urged would-be couples to first observe the traditional marriage rites before the wedding in the Church which is the opposite of most couples in Nigeria.
In Nigeria, most couples have three weddings; Court Wedding, Traditional wedding and Christian/Islamic Wedding.
Most Christian organizations do not recognize traditional marriages, they feel they have to perform a church wedding before they can officially be married, but Bishop Ezeofor has debunked this reasoning and insisted that traditional rites must be observed by intending couples before they can get married in his diocese
