News reaching us at Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET) is that NETWORKNEWS24 (NN24), the News broadcasting service is back in business. A statement issued this morning by the founder/CEO of the broadcast television company Mr. Anthony Dara confirms this.
In the statement sent via email, Mr. Dara apologized to viewers, advertisers for the impromptu shutdown as it was beyond their powers to continue broadcasting blaming it on ‘unforeseen operational reasons’. He thanked all those placed phone calls through and others who visited the company’s office at 3, Billings way, Oregun, Lagos. He was most grateful but more excited to inform all that NN24 had commenced transmitting once again.
NN24 started broadcasting from Monday May 3, 2010 through the platform of cable network company DStv on Channel 414 and in less than a year had received viewership and attention from a wide range of audience due to their news reporting style. They grew even bigger and burst into the international market when they hosted the series of Presidential and gubernatorial debates prior to the recently held April elections.
Shortly after then, the TV station shutdown abruptly, leaving viewers without a explanation. Rumours started flying around that the company couldn’t pay staff salaries and at some point had to relieve some staff of their duties. The company eventually bowed to the pressure and shutdown in May, 2011.
NN24 resumed broadcasting last night Tuesday, June 22, 2011. This was confirmed by a message sent from parent cable network MultiChoice to it’s subscribers.
