The show may have started far behind schedule and the crowd may be limited compared to the Sound City Music Video awards held at the same venue last weekend; but when it kick-started, it was a smooth sail from start to finish.
Inspiration FM presenter, Titi Adelagun and astute broadcaster Israel Edjeren exhibited professionalism as comperes. They interchangeably delivered the almost hitch-free award show.
A rather smaller auditorium and stage seemed like the organizers expected a low turnout but eventually left many of the guests on their feet as the hall was full to capacity.
In celebrating ‘Live-Beat’ at 15, a short video chronicled the birth of NMVA foreman, Cally Ikpe on his respected TV show (Live Beat). As the video showed on the projector in a swift series of scenes, the audience screamed – seeing the likes of 2face’s former band, Plantation Boiz, DJ Humility, Cally Ikpe, Psquare, Daddy Showkey, Alariwo and a host of other celebrities on the Live-Beat show back in the day when entertainers were perceived as hopeless and irresponsible – they all looked starved and haggard in the documentary.
Considering the turn of events year-in-year-out in the entertainment industry, the breakthrough and the success of the Nigerian entertainers, it would be right to say entertainment in Nigeria has come of age and the Cally Ikpe envisioned NMVA for the umpteenth time has lived up to its billing to stage a classy and rewarding award show annually, with or without major sponsors.
Entertainment pathfinder and Silverbird group boss, Ben Murray-Bruce was inducted into the NMVA hall of fame for his contribution to the growth and development of the Entertainment Industry in Nigeria.
‘It’s an honour to be inducted into the NMVA hall of fame. Now that the government has committed $300, 000 to the entertainment industry, we’ll push it to be $500, 000 and more which means you need to make good videos and shoot high quality movies’, the 54-year-old showbiz enthusiast charged the entertainers.
However, overwhelmed Goldie fought back tears while receiving her award for the ‘Best Use Of Costume category’ for You Know It. And the Kennis music act couldn’t help but set the tears free mid way into her appreciation speech…
