After 20 mega-seasons, the Kardashians bid farewell to E!, ending the fan-favourite Keeping Up With The Kardashians (KUWTK). It will be weird to no longer see TV’s first family on our screens. But, they taught us a few life lessons over the past 14 years that we will mull over until they return on Hulu and Disney Plus.
Here are nine lessons the powerful women of the Kardashian-Jenner clan taught us:
1. Know when to move
The Kardashians did not leave E! behind because they stopped getting deals from the network. Instead, they went because they could tell it was time to make a move. Interestingly, according to happenings on the show, when they decided to leave KUWTK, they didn’t have any other deals finalised. Yet, they will be back on our screens soon after signing a new agreement with Hulu and Disney Plus.
2. When life gives you lemons, make sure you turn them into lemonade
Kim always wanted to be famous. But she wasn’t quite sure how to make her dreams come true. That is until the biggest scandal of her life happened. Then, with the help of her brilliant momager, Kris Jenner, in 2007, she turned her leaked 2002 sex tape with Ray J into the biggest and most successful reality show in the world.
The pornographic film leaked months before KUWTK’s 2007 premiere, and Kim agreed to bluntly address the controversy in the series’ first episode. That decision, Kim said, laid the groundwork for a philosophy she continues to follow.
“I think that everything happens for a reason, and I really try to live like that. Every time there’s a crazy scandal that feels like you can’t breathe and how are you gonna get through this, it always is a lesson. Even if it’s a private lesson, or even if it’s just something that we didn’t know we had to go through.”
3. Find ways to turn your passion into money
All of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters created other sources of income for themselves outside of the show. For Kim, her KKW Beauty line and clothing business, Skims, have made her the most money. She loves beauty and makeup, so it’s no surprise that she has excelled in the industry as well as her younger sister, Kylie. Both of them are now billionaires.
Khloe is racking in millions of dollars from her size-inclusive jeans line Good American and made some millions off her fitness show, Revenge Body. It’s perfect for her because she loves fitness and is passionate about inclusivity. On the other hand, Kourtney makes some extra cash off her lifestyle site Poosh, and it makes complete sense since her lifestyle is her passion. Kendall also makes money off modelling, which she loves very much, so it’s no surprise that she is the highest-paid model in the world.
The common trend amongst all the sisters is how they make money off the things that make them happy. Kylie shared on the KUWTK reunion show that her obsession with makeup pushed her to start Kylie Cosmetics. She shared, “I think my love for makeup started with my insecurity with my lips. I was insecure because this guy said something to me one time. Then I got an obsession with makeup because I would overline my lips, and it just made me feel confident.”
4. Use every platform you get wisely
The Kardashians have made excellent use of their platform – launching businesses, endorsing brands, and creating spinoffs. They continue to grow their empire by leveraging every platform they get. On Instagram alone, between the sisters and their mom, they have 975 million followers, with Kylie having the most (244 million). They make millions of dollars yearly running ads for premium brands and making more money to live the life they want. They also use their star power across all social media, including Snapchat and TikTok, creating even more money.
5. Forgive quickly
One trait all the Kardashians have displayed is their ability to forgive and move on. Over the years, the sisters have gotten into very huge fights and always forgive each other. Also, they’ve all had tumultuous relationships with different people over the years, and they always choose to pardon the offending partners and move on. Their life always seems better for it.
6. Keep your family close
No matter what happens with the Kardashian family or how big a scandal is, they always rest assured that they have each other. They’ve shown over 14 years that you can overcome almost everything if you have the support of your family. They make us want to love our siblings even harder, and that is one gift the world needs, especially in these times.
7. Remember to always take a break
The Kardashian-Jenner sisters work very hard, but they also know how to blow off steam. Like they always say, these sisters work hard and play hard. They give a reminder that life is constantly moving, but a break is always a good idea.
8. Avoid showing off
It’s almost difficult to see how these sisters have taught us to avoid showing off when they have such a wonderful life. But, they’ve shared enough of the security issues they face on the show to teach you that showing off never ends well. Kim Kardashian was robbed in Paris at around 2:30 am on the night of October 3, 2016. She says that the incident has stayed with her ever since and changed how she handles life.
She shared on their reunion show, “As far as jewellery; if I’m wearing something, it’s borrowed. It’s fake. No expensive items ever come to my home. I have it all taken from security before I even enter my home. I can’t sleep if I have jewellery in my safe, or money, or anything at my house. I just don’t live my life like that.”
9. Always be ready to grow
The cast members of KUWTK have all grown tremendously since they first started the show 14 years ago. Not just in age, but in character and even academic status. Scott has started working on his drinking problems, Rob knew leaving the show to work on himself was the best choice for him, and Kim is studying to become a lawyer. Even though she’s failed the baby bar twice, the reality star will not stop trying and will retake it soon.
