Martin Luther said, “My heart, which is so full to overflowing, has often been solaced and refreshed by music when sick and weary.” And he is right, music is in fact medicine to the soul. We asked our fans which Nigerian musician they would be listening to if music could actually cure diseases.
As usual, we limited their options to make it easier to pinpoint one musician. As you could have guessed, it was a fierce and difficult battle. They were asked to pick between Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Simi, Teni, Adekunle Gold, and Wizkid. More people elected that they would definitely be listening to Simi if Nigerian music was the cure for diseases.
191 people answered the question and 53 of them, which is about 28%, chose Simi. Wizkid was the second choice for fans and he had 38 votes. Adekunle Gold was right behind Wizzy in votes with 36 people saying AG baby would be their doctor if possible. Tiwa Savage received 26 votes while 16 people would take Teni’s brand of drugs. Perhaps a proof that Nigerians were upset with Burna at the time this quiz was issued, fans were actually against him. However, 23 die-hard fans still said they would look to him for the cure.
Simi is known for calm, clean and love-filled music, so the choice is actually quite logical. Simi has maintained her distinct sound since she became popular with ‘Tiff’ in 2014. She has dropped hit songs like ‘Jamb Question’, ‘One kain’ and ‘Jericho’, to mention a few. We hope that Simi will continue to make beautiful music because whether or not it heals diseases, it definitely calms our hearts.
