On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, human rights organizations – Enough is Enough Nigeria, Project Alert, Rubies Ink, Delta Women, Kudirat Initiative for Democracy and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) along with other civil society organizations will walk in several cities around Nigeria to ‘create awareness about violence against women in Nigeria’.
The move was fuelled by the recent gang-rape of a young lady by five young men alleged to be students of Abia State University (ABSU).
‘It’s barbaric and unacceptable. This time it’s a case of ‘enough is enough’ and we will make sure we get Justice’, says Esther Ijewere, Project Coordinator, Walk Against Rape, a human rights organization.
According to organizers, the walk will begin at the Okpara Square in Umuahia and conclude at the State House in Abia. A Protest will also hold at the Abia State Liaison Office in Victoria Island, Lagos. And in Abuja, Protesters will converge at The Eagle Square.
Since the news of the gang raped was made public, many Nigerians have weighed in on the matter including The Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi. The Honourable Minister views the behaviour of the perpetrators as decadent and barbaric. Mallam Abdullahi therefore calls on the University authorities and relevant security agencies to step up action to ensure that the heartless and wicked perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted’, his statement read.
However, the Abia State Governor, Dr T.A Orji, and the ABSU Vice Chancellor, Prof Chibuzor Ogbuagu, have both said the incident did not happen in the University or the State.

both the vice chancellor and the governor are fools and I pray that their wifes and daughters will be raped.
Very good move. Would surely join in the walk subject to work schedule.
The worst thing that ever happened to Abia-State.
