For the past five weeks, the biggest music reality and capacity building show, MTN Y’ello Star has entertained Nigerians. The show came to an end on Sunday, December 13, 2020, with a closing gala where they announced Dotti as the winner of the show.
Before the closing gala, the entire country already believed that Dotti deserved to win the show. Social media and traditional media already predicted his MTN Y’ello Star win. He was the only contestant among the 14 finalists to ever trend on social media. He trended three times on Twitter. Twice, after amazing weekends of top-notch performances and again, last week when Twitter users were talking about voting for him. If Dotti hadn’t won the competition, it would have caused a lot of frenzy as the fans and viewers of the show already accepted his win even before the live show.
He had a spectacular journey throughout the Y’ello Star show, capturing the hearts of both the judges and fans from the moment he performed Bill Withers’ ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’. He has a special way of owning every song by switching up the arrangements and infusing his lyrics and style. Above all, he seemed connected to every song choice he made. He performed every time like it was his last, and he always improved with each show. His landslide victory has caused celebration and brought happiness to many Nigerians.
After the hosts of the show announced that he was the first-ever winner of MTN Y’ello Star, Dotti broke down in shock and thanked all his fans. He said, ‘I feel very excited, I feel blessed, who would have known? But, here we are. I’m grateful to God most especially and to everyone that supported me, voted for me’.
At the end of the night, there were thousands of comments on social media with fans of the show congratulating him on his big win.

Dotti recorded a major win with 64% of the total votes from this past week. The future looks promising for this 26-year old as he gets to kick off his music career by producing a song written by six-time Grammy winner, Malik Yusef at the Power Station in New York. He also gets to walk away from this life-changing experience with N5 million, a fully furnished apartment with an in-house studio, a brand new car, a one-year recording deal, and a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music 2021 Summer programme.
