The name Afolabi Durotoye might not ring a bell but on the web, his monicker Beazy does. Beazy has set the record as the first Nigerian rapper to record and release the highest number of songs in a year. The songs which comprise of original recordings and remixes were recorded and released from August 2010 to August 2011 totaling up to 52.
The rapper who will be 25 years old on August 30 says he started the weekly release titled ‘Beazy Music Mondays‘ because he ‘didn’t have the amount of money required for sustained promo’.
‘We had to find a way to keep him out there and what could be better than a weekly song release? He knew it would be hard work but it would also win him a lot of fans which it has done‘, says Olumide, Beazy’s elder brother and manager. Beazy and Olumide who are nephews to popular motivational speaker Fela Durotoye run their own talent management outfit BeMe.
Beazy Music Monday over the past months has gained popularity and a cult following as the young rapper’s fans wait every Monday morning for a download link to his new song. The ‘Beazy Music Monday’ series has featured prominent artistes like Overdose, Ice Prince, Illbliss, Terry Tha Rapman, Dokta Frabz, Shank, 2 Shotz, Kel, Djinee. Others are Skales, Eva, Show Dem Camp, Nyore, Loose Kaynon, Cyrus Da Virus, Chykay, Five Mics and a whole lot more.
The last song off the series was released today Monday, August 22, 2011 and features upcoming singer Chykay. The song is titled ‘Where we dey go‘.
