Foremost Nigerian playwright, poet and dramatist Femi Osofisan turns 65 on Thursday, June 16, 2010. And he will be honoured with a birthday project titled ‘Ode To The Tiger’.
Osofisan who is credited with over 50 published plays has excelled significantly in the theatre arts field with his immense contribution, hard work and creativity. A teacher and mentor to many, Osofisan has been one of the pillars of theatre in Nigeria for decades.
‘In his years of hard work and determination in the theatre arts world, he has become the most performed African playwright within and outside the continent. He is an outstanding poet, translator, critic and theorist of literature, and features as one of the regular columnists in Nigeria’s leading newspapers’ a statement from the project coordinators reads in part.
The seven-day event which is being put together by Vibrant Golden Profile in Conjunction with the Theatre Arts Department, University of Ibadan is expected to run as a live and electronic media carnival with various activities which is expected to add intellectual, motivational and artistic value to the guests and audiences.
‘Celebrating iconic figures in any professional field particularly in the theatre arts, we believe will serve as motivation for the upcoming generation to aspire for greatness in the right order’, Project manager, Onikosi Olamide explains.
