The next edition of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) will feature thrilling twists and drama-filled scenes that have never before been seen.
The MultiChoice group is taking things up a notch as the next instalment of the Big Brother Naija franchise will feature both Nigerian and South African housemates. This was made known by the CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe, at the MultiChoice Media Showcase, which was held on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
“Coming soon is a special Big Brother edition which will just have Nigerians and South Africans in one house. I can only imagine the explosion. Just imagine Afrobeats and Amapiano; imagine the food and everything else.” John Ugbe said.
Like Nigeria, South Africa has been a sort-after country in entertainment. Both countries have pushed frontiers and blurred barriers in music, film, art and culture. It would be exhilarating to see the two largest economies in Africa combine for the biggest reality TV show in Africa.
MultiChoice’s announcement comes at a time when the Season 7 of the BBNaija show, which sees housemates levelling up and vying for a 100million prize, is nearing its conclusion.
The BBNaija Season 7, tagged Level Up, has seen a number of unexpected twists as Big Brother introduced three house levels, two riders and two fake housemates. The show has also seen one disqualification, several strikes and fake evictions.
BBNaija does not only impact the Nigerian economy. It impacts youth culture and drives delightful entertainment. According to Plaqad’s report (2021), BBNaija creates up to 12,000 direct and indirect jobs. Moreover, the report reveals that 71.7% of respondents watch the show communally with family and friends, lending credence to its entertaining capabilities.
Thus, BBNaija lies at the core of Nigerian pop culture. No surprise that fans and audiences are already weighing in on and driving conversations about the Nigerian and Mzansi merger on social media.
