Last weekend proved to be the worst for Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala after she learnt that her mother Professor Kanene Okonjo had been kidnapped.
According to several reports, Okonjo was on Sunday, December 9, 2012 abducted at the gate of the palace of the traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, Professor Chukwuka Okonjo, who happens to be her husband.
Okonjo, 82, was reportedly kidnapped by a group of unidentified armed men (about 10) at the gate of the palace at Ogbe-ofu as her husband had travelled out of town.
The Nigerian Police have already arrested a man, who was said to have left the palace a few minutes before the incident.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Charles Muoka, who confirmed the kidnap, said the police had collected information that would be useful enough to track down the kidnappers.
Her daughter Okonjo-Iweala is yet to make a statement of her own.
The Kidnappers also haven’t made contact with her or the family to demand a ransom.
