Last week, a few dailies ran with the story that more than a year after receiving their plaques and smiling for pictures in Burkina Faso, multiple award-winning pop superstars P Square were yet to receive a dime of their $1 million cash prize from KORA for bagging the Artiste of the Year in 2010. Not crying over spilt milk, well at least not yet, the twins are launching another bid for more continental domination with the release of joint singles ‘Bunie Ya Enu’ and ‘Forever’.
Bunie Ya Enu is an original piece, sung in Ibo and with a quick tempo beat in the background. Old habits die-hard however, so on Forever the twins sample Mase’s ‘I Really Like It’ for at least the second time in their career. At this point, raising red flags and waving it in this duo’s face for illegal copying is an exercise in futility, so I won’t even bother.
In true P square-raid-Alaba fashion, expect this duo’s fifth studio album to hit stores in a few weeks. Will it have the same impact as its big money-spinning predecessors? That’s for you, the listener and consumer to decide.
