The Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) was established b y Ben Murray Bruce’s Silverbird Group in 1986 and has seen dozens of ladies emerge beauty queens. This special feature focuses on the queens of the last 10 years starting from 2005.
Omowunmi Akinifesi

After emerging MBGN in 2005, Omowunmi Akinifesi returned to Unilag to complete her studies and graduated with a degree in Geography and Regional planning. She has since moved on to becoming an environmental expert after earning a Masters in Environmental Monitoring, Modeling and Management from the Kings College, London. Omowunmi is currently an environmental ambassador for Lagos state.
Abiola Bashorun

Abiola Bashorun won the coveted pageant in 2006 at the age of 18. She spent her reign creating awareness about sickle cell awareness. After her reign as MBGN, she moved to London where she spent a private life. She however did modeling jobs including a top Motorola commercial. Abiola has also obtained a law degree from a London University.

Born Munachi Teresa Abii Nwankwo, the beautiful Imo born diva won the crown in 2007 at the age of 26. She was in her 2^nd year in Benson Idahosa University when she won the pageant and went on to raise awareness on polio and sickle cell as the MBGN. After her reign, she focused on school bagging a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. Muna has since then continued on her career as a rapper and song writer releasing several songs and collaborating with top Nigerian acts.
Adaeze Igwe

Adaeze Igwe won the MBGN crown in 2008 and went on to represent Nigeria at the Miss World pageant in South Africa. She emerged 2nd Runner-up Miss Sport in Miss World 2008. Adaeze two years after her reign ended got married to former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo who at the time was playing for Fenerbahce in Turky. They have since welcomed two boys.

Abia born beauty queen, Glory Chukwu won the MBGN in 2009 representing Nassarawa state. She competed at the Miss World which held for the 2^nd consecutive year in South Africa. A graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka where she studied Microbiology, Glory got married to a civil engineer, Uchechi Umunna in 2011. The couple welcomed their first baby in 2013.
Fiona Amuzie

Beautiful Fiona Amuzie won the MBGN in 2010 after which she got enrolled into Coventry University, UK to study Psychology. The ex-beauty queen has also been involved in humanitarian causes and she is the founder of Fiona Amuzie Organization against Trafficking of Persons and Child Labour (FOTIP).

Since winning the MBGN crown in 2011 and participating at the Miss World in London, Sylvia Nduka is no doubt one of the most controversial ex-queens. She was once rumoured to be dating Aliko Dangote, before then it was said to be Rivers big boy, Tonye Princewill but the beautiful model has continued to remain positive while growing strong despite all the scandals. She has her own hair brand named Sylvia. She also runs a NGO which caters for the needs of needy school children. She has also romanced Nollywood appearing in a movie produced by Halima Abubakar.
Isabella Ayuk

Another controversial winner, Isabella won the MBGN 2012 crown defeating 36 others but months later, it was alleged that she had falsified her age to qualify for the pageant. Although she wasn’t dethroned as widely speculated, Silverbird, organizers of the contest substituted her with Damiete Charles-Granville who initially emerged 1^st runner up for the Miss World competition in in China. A University of Calabar graduate of Business Administration, Isabella recently launched her Nollywood career while she has also established her own pageant, the Most Beautiful Girl in Cross Rivers.

And the MBGN controversy continues with beautiful Bayelsa born Anna Ebere Banner who won the crown on home grounds in 2013. While the beauty queen returned to school after her reign, multiple sources claimed she was in a romance with Nigerian musician, Flavour. While both kept mum over the issue, Anna suddenly went underground late 2014 with reports claiming she was carrying the singer’s baby. Well, like the saying goes, pregnancy secrets can’t be kept for long. Anna welcomed a baby girl in September but has also continued to keep as secret the paternity of the baby.

Until last night, Iheoma Nnadi was the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, a reign she has maintained in the past 12 months. The beauty queen who represented Akwa-Ibom emerged winner defeating 30 others at the 2014 edition which was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and Yvonne Vixen Ekwere.

The newest entrant into the clique of beauty queens, 21 year old Unoaku Anyadike is a final year student of the University of Ibadan. She contested for her citadel’s beauty queen in 2012 emerging 1^st runner up. Unoaku will be joining other contestants from across the world at the 2015 Miss World in Sanya, China on December 19, 2015.
