Timini Egbuson, the top Nollywood star and current toast of the movie industry, wins the Most Popular Actor award at the 2021 edition of the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards.

NET Honours is an annual people’s choice award that recognises top performers and events in the entertainment industry and public sector that have shaped the year through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.
Since his days playing Dozie on the set of Tinsel in 2012, Timini’s career has been on an upward trajectory. Over the last 12 months, Timini has become one of the most sought-after actors in the industry, appearing in several Nollywood blockbusters. The actor who earned his first Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) win for his role on Elevation Baby starred in the comedy film Ponzi, which grossed N32 million in cinemas. His latest film, Breaded Life, has grossed N83 million in cinemas so far.
Timini was up against other talented actors – Efa Iwara, Alexx Ekubo, Jidekene Achufusi (Swanky JKA), and Richard Mofe Damijo. Last year, Timini was also nominated in this category, but he lost out to Yul Edochie. After appearing in films like Fate of Alakada, Introducing The Kujus, Omo Ghetto The Saga, and Tanwa Savage over the last year, it’s no surprise that he won this category.
The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards are based on engagement from over 8 million internet users reached across websites, social media and related channels of Netng, Neusroom, 234Star and Orin between June 2020 and May 2021. The event celebrates musicians, actors, comedians, reality TV stars, events and public personalities who are subjects of Nigeria’s most exciting conversations in the year under review.
