The NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards, has announced nominations for Most Popular BBNaija Star for the Class of 2021. The nominees are Erica, Kiddwaya, Laycon, Nengi, Lilo and Vee.
The Big Brother Naija reality show is known for transforming young Nigerians into instant celebrities. Last year’s edition, Big Brother Naija: Lockdown, was no different, as all 20 housemates were catapulted into fame.
Erica Ngozi Nlewedim already had a blossoming acting career before BBNaija, but the show helped boost her profile. She was an instant hit with the fans. Even though she was disqualified a few weeks to the end of the show, she earned herself a loyal fan base who call themselves the Elites. Laycon, full name Olamilekan Moshood Agbeleshe, went to Big Brother: Lockdown with the primary aim of pushing his music career but ended up achieving a lot more. He didn’t just win the grand prize; he earned himself a fiercely loyal set of fans and would go on to feature on remixes of hit songs like DJ Neptune’s “Nobody” and Mr Real’s “Baba Fela.” His debut album, Shall We Begin, which debuted at number three on the worldwide iTunes album chart, has been streamed over 12 million times on Audiomack.
Nengi was one of the most-talked-about housemates on Big Brother Naija: Lockdown, primarily due to her dramatic friendship with fellow housemate Ozo. She ultimately emerged second runner-up and has been on a roll. After her time in the house, he was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the governor of Bayelsa State. She appeared in the video for Davido’s hit single “Jowo”, and she was cast in the 2020 Nollywood blockbuster Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story.
Lilo had a short but eventful stay in the Big Brother house and would be remembered for her closeness to fellow housemate Eric. These days, she focuses on her clothing line Lilo’s Closet and her restaurant called Cafe23.
Vee made a name for herself during Big Brother Naija: Lockdown edition as a ‘say it as it is’ housemate. She was also famous for her whirlwind romance with fellow housemate, Neo. After the house, she went back to her first love, music, and released a single on December 18, 2020, titled ‘Show’. The song has over 1.27 million streams on Audiomack. She also shows her talents as a tremendous host on the Trophy Extra Special Band show.
