Davido, Simi, Zlatan Ibile and DJ Kaywise are leading nominations in the new music categories for the NET Honours People’s Choice Awards, one of the world’s most prestigious audience data-based awards, which returns for a fifth edition this year.
NET Honours is an annual recognition of top performers in the entertainment industry and public sector based on audience data from ID Africa’s media channels. This year, NET Honours recognises over 100 achievers in the entertainment industry through a thorough analysis of audience search results, consumer interest, social media interactions and trends.
For the first time, organisers are adding new award categories celebrating the most played songs in Nigeria during the period under review. These awards will include pieces across five genres, namely: Naija-Pop, Hip-Hop, Alternative, Street Hop and R&B-Soul.
Davido has two songs nominated in the same category. His hit singles “FEM” (which was streamed 23 million times on YouTube) and “The Best” (which currently has 7.2 million views on YouTube) have been nominated for Most Played Pop Song for the year in review.
Simi received nominations in three music categories. “Duduke”, which was streamed 39 million times on YouTube, is up for Most Played Pop Song. She also appears on the Most Played R&B Song nominations list for her collaboration with Chike on “Running To You.” Simi, who has the highest number of nominations this year, also received a nod for her feature on Ladipoe’s “Know You” in the Most Played Hip Hop Song category.

Zlatan Ibile just couldn’t stop making hits during the year in review, and his efforts have been rewarded with three nominations in two music categories. His hit single “Lagos Anthem”, which currently has 3.2 million views on YouTube, has been nominated for Most Played Hip-Hop Song and Most Played Streethop Song. He was also featured on Bella Shmurda’s smash hit “Cashapp”, selected in the Most Played Streethop Song category.
DJ Kaywise is another artiste who had a very productive year. His mega-hit “Highway”, a collaboration with Phyno, has been streamed over 15 million times on Audiomack. The song received two nominations in two categories – Most Streamed Streethop Song and Most Streamed Alternative Song.

According to organisers, the Most Played Songs categories are based on verifiable data supplied by Corrents, a Nigerian music analytics startup. The company analyses data from airplay on over 100 local radio stations and streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.
Which songs do Nigerians really love listening to across multiple genres? Which of these artistes will secure their first wins in these new categories? Tune in to Netng’s website and social media platforms at 5 pm on Sunday, June 20, 2021, to find out.
