The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chapter is set to hold the governorship primaries of the party today, Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
A statement by Chief Henry Oladele Ajomale, Chairman of APC in Lagos State, advised party members, delegates and other stakeholders to be at the Onikan Stadium early for the event.
According to the statement, ‘ordinarily the governorship primary is supposed to be held at the Party Headquarters going by the party’s guidelines but Lagos Chapter applied to the National Secretariat for a change of venue just for convenience sake. In granting the waiver, the National Secretariat in a letter dated 1st December 2014 wrote: ‘We refer to your letter dated 28th November 2014 in respect of the above mentioned subject and wish to convey approval for the use of Onikan Stadium as the venue of the Governorship primaries.
‘As a consequence of this, the leadership of the party wishes to inform you that accreditation starts by 9.00 am while voting proper kicks off by 12 noon. Over 3,000 delegates are expected at the venue for the exercise. All logistics have been put in please, including adequate security and traffic management for a hitch free exercise’ he said.
Coming two days after the House of Assembly primaries which lifted the hopes of foremost actor, director and producer, Desmond Elliot and dashed those of gospel musician, Kenny Saint Best; the exercise is expected to produce the party’s governorship flag-bearer in Lagos State for next year’s general election in 2015.
