After a 3-year run as Head of Africa’s first African Music Channel, Ugandan born Leslie ‘Lee’ Kasumba has resigned her appointment. The amiable media personality is well known for popularising the Southern Africa based music channel amongst West and East African audiences.
Confirming her resignation from Channel O in an exclusive chat with NET via the phone, Lee Kasumba, as she is better known said: ‘I will forever cherish the people I worked with at Multichoice Africa, no one can deny it’s one of the most dynamic companies in Africa that feeds into the continent in so many ways. And the leadership in my opinion is amongst the best anywhere Nicco Meyer, Yolisa Phalale and Patrica Van Rooyen really are people I respect and honour. I am particularly grateful to Biola Alabi who was an incredibly driven boss who knew how to drive and empower those around her. She taught me a lot just by watching her. And I also feel that Wangi and Michael are going to drive the business in new ways and I’m excited to see how it all works as they are passionate and (are) great strategists.’
Lee Kasumba took over as Head of Channel O in 2011 and during her reign, introduced some of the Channel’s most innovative programmes like ‘Introducing,’ ‘Africa Dreaming,’ ‘ Volt,’ ‘ Speakerboxx,’ ‘Top 10 Most’ and others. Leslie also spearheaded the first ever Most Bankable Artists list in Africa in association with Forbes through the the ‘Top 10 Most’ format.
As Head of Channel O, her portfolio also included working on the Big Brother Africa selection panel as well as those of Channel O Music Video Awards and the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards [AMVCA].
