Nigeria’s most prominent entertainment conference, NECLive held on Sunday, April 25, 2021, and it pooled the biggest gathering of industry stakeholders. At the event, Idris Olorunnimbe, CEO of Temple Management Company, shared his top five tips to maximising content to create wealth.

The 42-year-old, whose management company manages acts like Big Brother Naija alum,Bisola Aiyeola; and rapper, 9ice, shared the five things he believes every content creator needs to create monetisable content. Here are his top five tips for scaling up creativity for wealth:
1. Talent: In Idris Olorunimbe’s words, “you must first have talent, and talent is cheaper by the dozen, so talent isn’t enough”. He continues, “talent is perhaps the first step, but it won’t get you there.”
2. Passion: Your passion for whatever creative path you choose keeps you going even when things are tough. Olorunimbe explains it better, “without passion, I’m sorry, just sit at home. For anybody in entertainment, music, whatever, if money is what you are looking for, perhaps you are in the wrong place because your motivation would be tested over and over. The most successful entertainers on record are people who have always just wanted to do the damn thing.”
He adds, “Apart from talent, you must have passion. The passion must be about whatever it is you are doing – singing, acting, whatever. Because, in building and growing your talent, there will be so many things along the way you might do and not necessarily get paid for in earning your stripes. You must want to do it because you love it, and it will open the doors to bring the wealth that will take care of you.”

3. Identity: This generally refers to how people see you and what components separates you from other talented people. Olorunnimbe says, “Your identity is very important as well. I think it’s a critical factor you need to bring in. You have to be you, don’t try to be somebody else. The uniqueness is perhaps what is going to carve that niche that you need. The more you try to be like someone else, the less likely you are to succeed.”
4. Team Structure: According to Olorunnimbe, every talent needs to have a team that works. He says, “The people around you are more likely to help you float or swim if chosen correctly. If chosen wrongly, you are going to drown very quickly. The more experienced and better your team is, the easier it will be for you.”
5. A Fanbase: Every content creator needs a group of people that consume their work. Without them, it is impossible to monetise the content that you’ve created. “It’s okay for an artist to be a local champion. In fact, that’s where you must start from. If your neighbours and the people in your immediate vicinity do not know you, and cannot get behind your craft, then maybe you should stay in school or go and learn a trade. The energy they give you is very important to achieving that global status that we all seek for. You must identify that early fanbase and keep them,” Olorunnimbe says.
