As the countdown to the 3rd edition of the Nigerian Entertainment Conference (NEC 2015), billed to hold on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Eko Hotel, Lagos gets more intense, let’s tell you one more reason to look forward to the conference – Jude Abaga, better known as M.I, is one of the speakers at the event.
A Nigerian hip hop recording artist, M.I, who has won several awards including the MTV Africa Music Awards 2009, rose to prominence in 2006 when his song, ‘Crowd Mentality’ became popular in his hometown of Jos. Finding his place in an industry dominated by the likes of Modenine, Ruggedman and Eedris Abdulkareem, he quickly commenced the production of mixtapes with his friend, Djinee.
This led to the critically-acclaimed single, ‘Safe’, (a song which he parodied popular Nigerian songs in its lyrics) and which went on to gather impressive airplay by African radio and music video stations such as MTV Vibe. The track also earned him awards at the Nigerian Music Video Awards, City People, and N.E.A among others.
Today, M.I has established his own record label, Loopy Records and is a music executive at Chocolate City.
