MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the appointment of Kemi Omotosho as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a significant leadership transition at one of the country’s leading media and entertainment companies. Her appointment takes effect in January 2026, when she will officially succeed John Ugbe, who is set to retire after nearly 15 years at the helm.
In a statement released on Tuesday, MultiChoice praised Ugbe’s long and impactful tenure, noting that he guided the company through major industry and market shifts while strengthening its operational foundations and long-term resilience. His leadership, the company said, positioned MultiChoice Nigeria to navigate change and sustain growth in an evolving media landscape.
Omotosho brings over two decades of leadership experience across media, telecommunications, and digital businesses in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. She has held several senior roles within the MultiChoice Group, including Executive Head of Customer Value Management in Nigeria and Group Executive Head for the Rest of Africa, providing leadership across more than 50 markets. Most recently, she served as Regional Director for Southern Africa, overseeing a seven-country portfolio with full profit and loss responsibility.
As CEO, Omotosho will oversee MultiChoice Nigeria’s strategy, operations, and stakeholder engagement, building on the foundation laid by her predecessor. Describing her appointment as a privilege, she said Nigeria remains one of the Group’s most strategic markets and expressed her commitment to deepening consumer relationships, championing local storytelling, and building a future-ready organisation that delivers sustainable value.
John Ugbe retires as one of the most influential leaders in the history of MultiChoice Nigeria, bringing to a close nearly 15 years as chief executive officer marked by steady growth, resilience, and transformation. During his tenure, Ugbe steered the company through major industry disruptions, shifting consumer habits, and intense market competition, while strengthening its operational foundations and expanding its footprint in Nigeria’s pay-TV and digital entertainment space. Under his leadership, MultiChoice Nigeria deepened its local content strategy, supported the growth of the Nigerian creative industry, and built a business positioned for long-term sustainability.
