It’s been an eventful week for Ghana which celebrated her 56th Independence yesterday. A lot of festivities went down this week but the biggest so far has been Chris Brown’s live performance in the country’s capital, Accra.
Ghanaians were however not too pleased with the US star Chris Brown who was allegedly paid a whopping $1m to be part of the official unveiling of the ‘Hope City Project’, as well as headline a stadium concert. Multiple media reports say he failed to attend that and other anniversary events he was reportedly booked for. Brown arrived Ghana on Tuesday, according to local media.
But the fans were happy when he showed up at the sports stadium, for his live ‘mega concert’ in Accra on March 5. It was his first time in Ghana.
Just like his South Africa and Nigeria concerts, Brown connected with the mostly young fans; although some criticized him heavily for pulling out a rolled marijuana joint and smoking it on stage.
‘If anybody’s tripping on you smoking weed, f*ck them’, he was reported to have said. He did same in Lagos, with many of the young fans cheering in approval.
Popular Ghanaian website Myjoyonline wrote: Chris Brown may have thrilled Ghanaians but his performance was marred by excessive use of vulgar language and also a blatant disregard for ethics by publicly smoking marijuana on stage…
CB might also have worsened the situation by not bringing on any Ghanaian artiste on stage during his set, instead opting for Nigerian pop star Wizkid who was also his choice when he performed in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 22, 2012.
‘Shutdown GH with tha brother breeeezzzzy last night!!! Ya!’ Wizkid wrote excitedly on his Insagram page, posting pics of himself and Brown on stage.
One source said: ‘Ghanains love Wizkid and many were happy to see him. But it was just a bit disappointing that it was a Nigerian, not a Ghanaian that enjoyed that moment…’

It is good he came, however, the negative feedback is not so exciting especially after the rumours and scandals he has been lately…Aprokocity.com
