South African based Nigerian artiste; Mikky Jaggaz has released a new single titled “Do Me”. Although the singer is known for predominantly playing in the dancehall terrain, Do Me finds him experimenting with contemporary African pop elements – affirming his recent claims during a recent interview with NET TV. “I have many dancehall songs but it doesn’t mean I can’t do other kinds of music. I am a versatile artist”, Jaggaz cited.
On Do Me, the singer puts his Nigerian influences on full display as, throughout the record, he sang intermittently in the Yoruba dialect declaring undying love to his love interest; “Aye ema gba omo lowo mi o (Interpretation: People don’t take my baby from me)”. Mikky kicked off his career professionally in South Africa some four years ago after wrapping up an academic programme – although he chose to stay back in the country, you will find influences from his Nigerian roots (in his music) as seen on this record.
The rest of the song intertwines the gospel of love and lust synonymous with a typical African pop music. Sonically, Jaggaz made zero stretches but his easy to learn lyrics layered decently on the melodious urban Ghanaian highlife bounce screams a loud potential for a street anthem.
